An ISP's field team is its physical infrastructure crew. In Dhaka, a field technician rides a bike across 4–6 locations a day, carrying a toolkit, a cable roll, and a phone. That phone needs to be their complete operations interface.
What field agents actually do:
From our research, a typical field agent day looks like:
- 9am: Pick up task list (3 installations, 2 repairs, 1 cash collection)
- Travel to location 1. Customer isn't home. Reschedule.
- Location 2. Installation complete. Log it. Take photos of the setup.
- Location 3. Customer pays ৳600 cash for 2 overdue months. Enter payment. Generate receipt.
- Repeat until evening. Return to office. Hand over cash.
The task interface
The field agent mobile interface (a mobile-optimized web view, no app store required) shows today's assigned tasks in order. For each task:
- Check-in: Button captures GPS coordinates and timestamp.
- Work log: Free text notes about what was done.
- Photos: Up to 5 images, compressed client-side before upload.
- Signature: HTML5 Canvas touch input for customer sign-off.
- Check-out: GPS + timestamp recorded.
- Cash collection (if applicable): Enter amount, system applies to invoice.
GPS and reconciliation
GPS check-in/check-out gives supervisors a verifiable record that the agent was at the correct location. The admin dashboard shows an agent's GPS trail for the day on a Google Maps view.
Cash collection by the agent is tracked against their agent ID. At end of day, the supervisor runs a "handover reconciliation" — comparing total cash handed over against total payments logged. Discrepancies are flagged.
Why no native app?
We considered building a React Native app, but decided against it for the first version. ISP operators don't want to manage app distribution. A mobile-optimized PWA that agents access via a shared browser link, with the option to install to home screen, covers 95% of use cases. The REST API is there if a native app is needed later.
